#StarsofTZAPAC: From Artists to innovators, meet the stellar individuals across APAC building on Tezos

Creator
July 4, 2022

As part of a special series, we highlight the work being done throughout the Tezos ecosystem in Asia by ambitious entrepreneurs, innovative NFT artists, original thinkers, and problem solvers – the #StarsofTZAPAC.

Mumu the Stan (AKA Moon HMZ), visual artist, Malaysia

Mumu the Stan (AKA Moon HMZ)

Munira Humzah, AKA Moon HMZ, is a Malaysian visual artist who got her start when she joined ‘stan Twitter’, where fans of different celebrities and artists share their love of their favorite’s work. Moon, as she’s mostly known amongst her own growing base of fans, decided to start posting her own art, which caught the eye of founding member of Linkin Park, Mike Shinoda.

At Shinoda’s urging, Moon minted some of her quirky pixel art on the Tezos blockchain – it was a transformative moment. Moon now counts Shinoda as one of the first and perhaps most prominent collectors of her art – and he’s not the only one. The artist’s work quickly gained notoriety amongst the Tezos clean NFT community, so much so that Moon was able to quit her ‘everyday’ job to pursue her artistic career full time. Tommy Chandra, graphic artist, Indonesia

Tommy Chandra

Tommy Chandra is an Indonesian graphic designer and visual artist whose work extends from his day job bringing to life visual stories for Indonesian and global brands. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Tommy started searching for inspiration. His love of tech and art collided in the form of the NFT craze, and Tommy started to mint his bold style – influenced by his training as an architect and daily pop culture – into NFTs.

For Tommy, minting his NFTs on the Tezos blockchain is an easy decision because of the relatively cost-effective gas fees and the network’s energy efficiency compared to other blockchains. Now, Tommy is working on a new project called OSISO, and in October this year, he will hold an offline exhibition collaborating with an artist, architect, and visual designer. Jarret Cross, multidisciplinary artist, Philippines

Jarret Cross

Jarrett Cross hails from Manila in the Philippines and was exposed to art and music from a young age through his musician parents. In elementary school, Cross started guitar lessons and joined in street dance sessions with local b-boys. High school saw Cross truly lean into his multidisciplinary talents, simultaneously practicing for an international career in dance while also playing cello for the local high school orchestra. His Hip Hop dance skills eventually took him around the world.

Back in the Philippines, Cross delved into photography and digital art. At the time the pandemic gripped the region, Cross was working as a full-time artist. When events and live gigs stopped, he turned to NFTs as a way to connect with potential audiences for his work. After discovering the Tezos blockchain through the online event OBJKT4OBJKT, Cross realized the costs of minting NFTs on the Tezos blockchain were much less compared to other blockchains. According to Cross, hanging out on H=N (minting platform hic et nunc) and collecting other artists’ work and being collected by others brought him a lot of joy. “The works of art I saw in Tezos were insane and immensely refreshing as it introduced me to other forms, mediums, and styles of art,” he said.

Sarisa Kojima is a multidisciplinary artist with a formal art education and is the co-founder of SweatyNFT – an all-in-one toolkit for artists looking to mint their own NFTs. Sarisa is a passionate advocate for what she calls the ‘creator economy’ – the ability of blockchain technologies like Tezos to unlock value and audiences for artists.

In creating SweatyNFT, Kojima and her team sought to help facilitate the transition for artists from traditional methods of reaching collectors and fans to Web3. With no coding experience, creators can mint multiple NFTs at once, allowing for instant scale of their original art. What’s an EGG?

The TZ APAC and Tezos India Ecosystem Growth Grants (EGG) program funds creators and developers exploring and utilizing the Tezos network. Simply put, it’s a way to help innovators across Asia build game-changing solutions on Tezos

Liquibrium, TZ APAC EGG Grantee

SweatyNFT

Liquibrium is a decentralized exchange for the Tezos ecosystem which focuses on stable assets and provides the most optimum exchange value. A stablecoin exchange is one of the foundational pieces for any blockchain ecosystem enabling other DeFi applications to be built on top of it. The team aimed to build this missing piece for the Tezos network, to make the Tezos Defi space more liquid and accelerate its growth.

The team behind Liquibrium realized that they needed to bootstrap a significant amount of liquidity pre-launch. This was required to service a larger group of users at launch by enabling more swaps, in turn boosting APY (Annual Percentage Yield) for their existing LPs.

The EGG was instrumental for the team in securing liquidity and helping cover other costs as part of the project.

TwiTz NFT, TZ APAC EGG Grantee

SweatyNFT

TwiTz is an innovative Tezos blockchain powered platform that allows people to claim ownership of their Tweets by minting them into NFTs.

TwiTz lets users immortalize their Tweets on-chain, which otherwise would be stored in a centralized system like Twitter where they can be removed or censored anytime. The project has evolved quite a bit in terms of features and UX but still sticks to its true purpose.

Why not start your own Tezos project?

Whether you’re an avid gamer, a developer, a creator looking to start your career as a digital artist, or a curious cat looking for something interesting to explore in the world of Web3, there’s perhaps never been a more opportune moment to get started on your own Tezos blockchain project.

For inspiration on the full list of projects across the Tezos community worldwide, check out Tezosprojects.
