How Indonesian artist Binerica is empowered by Web3: Binerica NFT project

Creator
December 27, 2022

Fadhli speaks about the newly launched Binerica NFT project, and how the Tezos ecosystem and Web3 enables collaborations between creators.

About Binerica, and the new album ‘Lima Dimensi’

Binerica is a one man band founded by Fadhli Faizal - singer, songwriter, and producer from Jakarta. The band’s name was inspired by the ubiquitous machine language used by almost all computer-based devices, the binary code. It also represents how the music was produced - through a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) on a single computer, with dozens of virtual instruments carrying billions of binary instructions.

Binerica’s new album, ‘Lima Dimensi’ features synth-wave, psychedelic, and alternative sounds that blend together into a harmonious melody that takes our soul through a contemplative adventure through the cosmos.

‘Lima Dimensi’ is a collective project on Tezos, featuring collaborative work between artists and creators passionate about Web3. This album is a true form of community-based collaboration.

“Binerica’s first album can be interpreted as the journey of every human being in searching for answers about the truth of life. We can interpret each message in the lyrics as coordinates that can bring us closer, or keep us away from the truth that we have been looking for.

Along the way, these coordinates are complemented by visuals from another space and time adventurer named Radhinal Indra, which will enrich the imagination to be able to open up other possibilities about the journey.”

About the Binerica NFT project

The Binerica NFT project involves two different collections.

The main NFT collection consists of 10 tracks on Binerica’s album, and 25 editions of each track can be minted. Holders of this collection will also be airdropped NFTs of the track artwork, and a music sample which holders can use royalty-free.

Accompanying this will be the Celestial Objects NFT collection, produced by Binerica’s close collaborators. All sales will go directly to the collaborating artists.

70% of the funds raised from the NFT mint will be used to fund Binerica’s second album.

The other 30% of the funds raised will be used to give back to the Web3 community, through buying other music NFTs, especially in the Tezos ecosystem.

You can begin your journey at Binerica.com. , and check out the NFTs at Objkt.com.

Fadhli speaks on Web3, his inspirations and collaborators

Can you share more about your background in both music and NFTs?

I was exposed to the world of Web3 and NFTs through a couple of friends who’ve been in the Web3 space as collectors and artists.

Long ago, my dream of becoming a musician was blocked by the fact that being signed by a record label was the only path into the music industry. Chasing my dream through that route was hard.

Now, we have multiple paths of breaking into the music industry - so my dream has been reignited once again! Recently, I’ve taken all the lyrics I’ve written over the years and developed them into songs. You can check them out on my Spotify here.

What does NFT technology mean for artists when it comes to copyrights and royalties?

For me, the most significant thing that NFTs offer is the ability to share royalties with buyers/collectors transparently.

I truly hope that governments continue keeping up with these developments, creating and adjusting policy with regards to copyrights and royalties in Web3, in the interest of protecting artists.

Does Web3 enable you to connect more closely with your audience and community?

Absolutely. I’ve made a number of new peers (artists and art enthusiasts) from NFT art communities.

For an indie artist like me to keep thriving, expanding my network is surely a must - and the spirit of Web3 enables that!

What were the inspirations behind this album?

The biggest inspiration has got to be Carl Sagan. I’m a fan of his, and am passionate about astronomy!

I’ve watched the Cosmos documentary multiple times, which has affected my perspective towards life. Drawing inspiration there, I write down my thoughts and turn them into lyrics. In fact, the ‘Lima Dimensi’ album is a result of my interest in astronomy, packed with science fiction concepts. My inspirations here not only come from Sci-Fi themed songs like David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ but also from Sci-Fi movies like ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Arrival’. These had strong influences on the creation of this album.

How did you meet your collaborators, and decide to work with them? Could you share your thoughts on collaborations in Web3?

I’ve actually been friends with some of my collaborators before I was into NFTs! Most of them had already been in the Web3 space for quite some time.

I also received help from my friends at Anml3, who introduced me to Web3 and set me up with ideas for the project, including how we could collaborate with other artists for this Binerica NFT project.

My best regards to fellow artists/creators involved in this project: Radhinal Indra, Aline Subi, Anom Farid, Rizki Katamsi, Adit Ghoyo, and Rico.

From my point of view, Web3 can help collaborations between artists flourish greatly. It empowers artists through things like royalty sharing, channeling a creative atmosphere, and allowing global networking - these are the essence of conducive artists collaborations.

If artists don’t explore Web3 - that’s quite an opportunity they’re missing!

Speaking of collaboration, I’m looking forward to what companies like Anml3 will accomplish in this space through collaborating with each other. Let’s see!

How does your NFT project add value to holders and the Tezos ecosystem?

I truly hope that this NFT project can provide extra value to the holders. One such value-add is that holders can use or reproduce samples from some of my songs without paying royalties. For example, creators can use my music to accompany their works. The usage of those samples are endless!

I also wish that more indie musicians will utilize Tezos as a platform to market their music - considering the strength and friendliness of the Tezos ecosystem. I believe that the Tezos ecosystem is perfect for artists and creators to flourish.
