In partnership with TEZOS INDIA and CHAINSTACK, the month-long event promoted adopting and developing innovative new technologies on the Tezos blockchain.
The theme for TezAsia was “creating a sustainable blockchain future” and covered three distinct tracks core to Tezos’ promise as a public LPoS blockchain: DeFi, NFTs and Collectibles, and Tools and Wallets. Participants were urged to consider creating environmental awareness by deploying a sustainable alternative to the current world processes and making a difference for a better and greener world.
1400 registrations, 1600 individual participants, 36 projects, and over 10 hours of dedicated workshopping later, gamified carbon currency solution, TEZCO, was selected by the month-long event’s five judges as the winner.
In second place was RADIATE FINANCE, a streaming protocol where users can create a stream to transfer tokens in real-time. Omni Swap – a credit default swaps solution on blockchain to remove over-collateralization requirements in loans facilities – came in third. The winners received grants of up to USD 10,000 each, allowing them to take their projects to the next level.
Unlike other hackathons - where generally only development pros take part - TezAsia was open to anyone with a vision and a desire to push the boundaries of what blockchain tech can do for people, the planet, and profit. Newcomers, advanced coders, students, working professionals, blockchain enthusiasts, and others were all welcome.
Through ongoing mentoring and a series of dedicated workshops, participants learned more about articulating, planning, and building their Tezos blockchain-based solutions. Over two weeks, the workshops covered topics as varied as writing and deploying smart contracts, token standards, diving into the front-end design and build of dApps (decentralized applications), and wallet integrations. Moreover, the sessions were conducted by some of Asia’s top blockchain-based company founders, including Plenty DeFi, Cryptonomixc, Hover Labs, Air Gap, and Kalamint.
Given TezAsia is the first event of its type in the region, what’s especially impressive is the sheer quality of the talent on show.
According to TezAsia judge and President of the Blockchain Game Alliance, Sebastien Borget, some of the projects born from the TezAsia hackathon were outstanding in the quality of their presentation, MVP product readiness, and execution from the participants.
“‘I’m impressed and confident in what will come in the future of the Tezos ecosystem”, said Borget.
TZ APAC’s Head of Growth, David Tng, said the sheer quality and output of the participants demonstrate Asia’s potential for being a global leader in blockchain technology is only just getting started.
“This isn’t theoretical stuff - some of these concepts are going on to market-ready status at lightning speed”, says Tng. “It’s shining a light on Tezos-based developer talent in the region, and I have to say that talent is formidable. It’s an exciting time for blockchain in Asia.”
Beyond TezAsia, TZ APAC, and Tezos India have also partnered with Microsoft, Skoda, and Tech Mahindra to deliver the MICROSOFT CENTURY PROGRAM – a corporate-SME bridge program that seeks to uncover blockchain-based solutions on Tezos for industry-specific use cases.
