Battle of Guardians: Bringing Esports to the Blockchain

Enterprise
July 3, 2023

Battle of Guardians is a real-time Web3 multiplayer PVP arena game, poised to set the Esports stage on fire and bring millions of fans into the Web3 gaming space.

Enter a world where the thrill of battle and the adrenaline rush of competition is matched only by the satisfaction of rewards. Welcome to the realm of Battle of Guardians (BOG), a game that’s breaking the mold of Web3 gaming and setting the stage on fire.

BOG is a real-time multiplayer PVP arena NFT game, a product of meticulous development since 2021. This game is the brainchild of Miracle Gates Entertainment, the largest game development studio in Bali. With a portfolio of over 30 games across various platforms since 2014, the studio’s longevity is a testament to its success in the fiercely competitive gaming industry.

BOG 1

BOG is not your standard Web3 Play2Earn game, where fun takes a backseat to the earnings aspect. The developers understand that the true value of a play-to-earn game lies not just in the earning, but in the thrill of the fight and the glory of victory - that’s why players willingly pay for games without expecting any returns.

Gamers can play over 90 different characters, crafted with beautiful designs and folklore-inspired backstories. They can compete against each other in real-time battles, and explore the world of BOG through a compelling story mode. With over 21,000 downloads across various platforms and over a thousand monthly active players, it is clear that the BOG developers have been wildly successful in their mission of delivering fun to players.

BOG is also making strides to enter the Esports arena, becoming a platform where gamers compete at the highest level. The team is already hosting major tournaments and signing major Esports teams in the region to participate. With such renowned gamers participating in tournaments and streaming the game daily, they bring along millions of devoted fans. Some of these teams include EVOS (7m Instagram followers), RRQ (4.8m Instagram followers), ONIC (1.8m Instagram followers), and Alter Ego (939k Instagram followers).

In 2022, BOG was scouted by the National Federation of Indonesian Esports (PBESI) and invited to be part of the main lineup of games in the prestigious President’s Cup. They have also been invited to exhibit their game at the International Esports Federation World Esports Championship 2022, which brings together 106 countries yearly to compete and raise the profile of Esports globally.

The timing for BOG’s market entry cannot be more perfect. With the Indonesian government’s current spearheading of initiatives to grow and support the nation’s Esports scene coupled with the anticipated meteoric rise of Web3 gaming, the stage is set for BOG to make a grand entrance into the world of competitive gaming.

About the Game

In the world of Battle of Guardians, rich lore sets the stage for an epic clash of power between three powerful factions, Guardians, Humans, and Demons. Players can choose to represent one of these factions, with this choice affecting the gameplay mechanics.

Each race has unique attributes that define its strengths. Guardians are known for their high damage output. Humans are renowned for their intelligence, which translates into additional damage points when using combo moves. Demons are resilient and recognized for their robust health points.

These races are further divided into tiers, each offering a unique gaming experience:

This forms the basis of BOG’s clever approach that solves the problem of Web3 games gradually becoming Play2Win (P2W).

P2W is a model detested by gamers, where purchased assets give buyers a huge in-game advantage over higher-skilled players. P2W becomes a race of who can spend the most, taking the fun away from casual players.

BOG avoids this pitfall by implementing a system that ensures a level playing field for all players, regardless of how much they spend. This is achieved through a tier system, where players are matched with opponents of the same tier. For example, a player with a God of War character, the highest tier, will only face off against other God of War characters. Battles remain fair and competitive, and victory is determined by skill and strategy, not by the amount of money spent.

How are NFTs and Tokens used in the game?

The game operates with a dual token model, Battle of Guardians Share ($BGS) and Fighting Points ($FP), both of which have their unique uses.

In BOG, players can purchase NFT characters in their initial NFT drop. These characters are sold in packs of three, categorized into Common, Rare, and Ultra Rare packs. Higher rarity packs have a chance to contain characters of higher tiers, such as Legendary Warrior or God of War. To participate in the NFT drop, players need to stake a certain amount of $BGS.

In order to ensure token stability, the BOG team has implemented several burning mechanisms. One example is NFT synthesis, where players can combine their NFT characters of the same kind and tier to obtain a character that is one tier higher. To perform a synthesis, players need to burn both $BGS and $FP.

BOG also features an official marketplace where players can exchange NFT characters (fighters) and in-game items, as well as rent their NFTs. This marketplace becomes a hub for players to exchange assets and interact with each other.

Through the NFT Renting program, owners can rent their NFT assets to skillful players who are eager to earn from the game. This creates a win-win solution where both parties can split the earnings. BOG’s scholarship program is built inside a smart contract. Guilds and scholars can determine a share agreement prior to leasing the NFT characters, and earnings will be split automatically.

Game Modes

Players are offered a variety of game modes to suit their preferences and skill levels. Each mode provides a unique experience, ensuring that the game remains fresh and engaging.

Story (PvE)

The story mode is a journey through the realms of Battle of Guardians. With 25 stages to conquer, players can practice and familiarize themselves with their NFT Characters’ skill moves and stats. As players progress, they’ll face CPU opponents that become increasingly challenging. Each victory in this mode rewards players with $FP, adding an extra incentive to the thrill of the fight.

Arena (PvP)

Once players have honed their skills in the story mode, they can test their mettle against other players in the Arena. This 1v1 battle mode uses a random matchmaking system based on Matchmaking Rating (MMR), ensuring that players are paired with opponents of similar skill levels. Victories in the Arena reward players with a moderate amount of $FP, the amount of which depends on the player’s MMR.

Bout (PvP)

For seasoned players seeking a higher level of competition, the Bout mode offers an exciting challenge. This mode requires an entrance fee paid in $FP, and players are matched in brackets of 8/16/32 for a single tournament, depending on the number of players in the queue. The competition continues until a player is knocked out or emerges as the victor, claiming the pool of $FP collected at the beginning of the tournament. In addition to this substantial reward, the winner also receives a certain amount of $BGS, making the Bout mode the most rewarding of all three.
