Reliving Demo Day of the TZ APAC Tezos Incubator (Cohort 2)

Enterprise
July 25, 2023

On 5 July, investors gathered at the heart of Singapore to find the next Web3 unicorn to back. The graduates of the TTI’s Cohort 2 displayed true innovation, presenting real-world solutions built with cutting-edge technology. Find out more about what happened on Demo Day here.

At TZ APAC, we couldn’t be prouder of the teams of Cohort 2, who have worked tirelessly towards their vision of success while demonstrating remarkable grit and resilience.

The path of a Web3 entrepreneur is never easy. Take it from the Hyperglade team, who had to deal with crippling Sri Lankan political and financial crises, but yet managed to secure funding from Draper Associates. Or the Gaspack team, who fought tooth and nail to distinguish themselves as Asia’s premier NFT launchpad, and is now supporting billion-dollar companies venturing into Web3 like Ultramilk.

The staying power of these teams through adversity is fuelled by an unshakeable belief in the potential of decentralized technology to change the world. Along with technological genius and strong business acumen, this belief is a potent recipe for success in building solutions for critical real-world problems.

For example, YourD is on a mission to protect everyone’s data privacy by delivering the world’s first GDPR-compliant targeted advertising. DOM Money understands how crypto can improve the financial security of millions in less stable regions, and is making widespread crypto payments a reality.

Every single one of the startups in Cohort 2 has a fantastic story to tell - and they told their story at Demo Day, where investors from across Asia gathered to back the next Web3 unicorn.

What Happened At Demo Day?

On 5 July, 12 teams from 9 different countries gathered at the heart of Singapore to present how they’re set to rock entire industries from the core. Most teams flew in from all over Asia, with a select few teams pitching through the big screens.

Investors from organizations like Spartan Group, Fisher8, Arcane, Spartan Group, Whampoa Digital, and more took their places, ready to pay close attention to the innovation being showcased.

We had the honor of having Jonas Thuerig (Head Asia, Managing Partner of Tenity) and Wong Wen Kang (Vice President of SBI Ven Capital) evaluate the startups as judges.

Drawing from their extensive experience, the judges paid close attention to the team’s pitches and held nothing back in their questions after the pitch. The post-pitch Question & Answer session was also open to all investors present.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

This provided a valuable opportunity for the teams to not only showcase the value proposition of their products but also gather insights to iterate for further success.

“The Q&A session was great, full of good questions that challenged me to improve the storytelling and presentation slides to make it even easier to understand.” - Nikolai Grigoriev, Founder of DOM Money

Investors Shared Their 2023 Web3 Insights With Us

During the event, the TZ APAC team took the opportunity to interview various industry professionals in attendance on their Web3 insights and the trends they see.

Networking

No Demo Day is complete without a great networking session after!

Collaboration is the foundation of Web3, and building relationships is the starting line.

The teams took the opportunity to engage with intrigued investors, forming relationships that may potentially lead to game-changing partnerships that shape the Web3 space.

Teams mingling

It was also heartening to see the teams finally getting to speak to each other in real life, after months of knowledge-sharing and discussion during the incubator phase.

“We were impressed by the networking event which allowed us to network with our fellow cohort participants as well members of the Tezos team -- as graduates of the cohort, establishing these relationships will be useful for us as we venture into the Tezos ecosystem in the near future.” - Joseph Saw, co-founder of Pinjam Labs
